I joined Royal Mail Group straight from school in 1985. Living in Merseyside, the prospect of a secure role as a postal cadet was very tempting in an otherwise bleak environment. And I soon realised the scale of opportunity available to me. With an open-mind and belief in my own abilities, I have jumped at every chance of progression. I now lead the customer marketing communications team in delivering all our brand and marketing activity – a role that has really built up my passion and pride for our company.

An opportunity that really stands out to me was planning and making our TV advert that featured Royal Mail Group colleagues. We wrote to every one of our front line colleagues asking them if they’d like to be involved, and from the 2,500 that replied, chose 30 to star in the ad. We filmed in different parts of the UK and had a different postie in each scene – every one of whom was thrilled as I was about the whole experience. The highlight of the entire project was recording the Royal Mail Choir singing "All you need is love" at Abbey Road. Sitting in Studio 2 where The Beatles recorded most of their music and as my favourite group, was something I never expected I would ever get to do and will never forget.
